    Mid-year catchup

Wow, it is June already. Vista and Office 2007 has entered the mainstream fairly easily, with more and more people around me adopting it with the greatest of pleasure. I even broke down and bought myself a sparkly new, Vista-compatible laptop, just so I can sit on the wagon too.

I have had the opportunity to play a little with Beta 3 of Windows Server 2008 (Longhorn), and I was pleased. Base install is really just that, and, finally, gone is Outlook Express (amongst other things) from the Server platform. I tinkered a little with the AD side of it, and the group policies will give BFOHs the ability to really mess with users. Of course, the Linux guys will go 'yay, look, finally you can install a Windows server in a non-gui mode', but i have to agree with them. There is no need for the bloated gui for things like DNS servers, and, finally, Windows can be installed without a GUI for specific funtions. yay.

Similarly, the PS3 has been releaseed, but unfortunately, judging from the comments from avid gamers I know, will not be adopted that easily. It is still too pricey, there aren't really any games available, and the XBOX360 has proven itself to be a superior console, at least for the time being.

So, what is up next to look forward to? I am still waiting to see the Origami in action, and, of course, the release of Windows Server 2008 will be a great event to look forward to. Unfortunately, I have been spending so much time recently just getting some work done, I don't have a clue what else is coming down the line - anyone want to do some leg work for me, and give me a heads up?
